Hallstatt

Hallstatt - a destination throughout the seasons

In summer it is highly recommended to explore the lake (Hallstättersee), which is situated directly in front of Haus Cian. Go on a guided lake cruise or just hire an electric- or pedal boat. You can also go for a swim in the lake. With water temperatures of up to 22 degrees celsius it is definitely an experience.

Hallstatt also offers cultural events (music, theater and art), especially in the summer months. Information on current and upcoming events can be found on hallstatt.net (event list only available in German). During your stay at Haus Cian I am happy to help you out with updated information on current events.

Hallstatt also offers a couple of attractions you can visit all year round, no matter what the weather is. The Cultural Heritage Museum is definitely worth a visit. The Catholic church has a magnificent winged high altar dating back to the late Gothic. Next to the church, in the St. Michael's chapel you can find the Bone House (Beinhaus). In the chapel you can see about 1200 skulls, half of them painted with flowery motives. Another place to visit is Hallstatt Salt Worlds where you can go deep down into the salt mountain. Historians have proven that the salt mine in Hallstatt is the oldest one in the world.

Late summer and autumn are the best time for walking and hiking tours. Walking in the unique countryside around Hallstatt will help you to relax and find your inner peace.

Winter is a very calm and quiet time in Hallstatt. Tourists are always very welcome to enjoy this special time with the locals. The nearby ski resorts (Krippenstein, Gosau/Dachstein West, Tauplitz) are within quick and easy reach and they offer a wide range of winter sports acitivities.
